Dr. Márcio Bottaro has been a Laboratory Specialist at the Institute of Energy and Environment at the University of São Paulo (IEE-USP) for over 30 years. He holds a bachelor's degree in Electronic Technology and a Ph.D. in Nuclear Technology from the University of São Paulo. Throughout his career, he has participated in numerous processes for the creation and accreditation of specialized laboratories in Brazil and other countries since 1995. Between 2012 and 2016, he served as technical coordinator for the development and accreditation of the first standardized open-arc laboratory in the Southern Hemisphere, specializing in the characterization and testing of materials and personal protective equipment (PPE) against thermal hazards resulting from electric arcs.He is the Coordinator of the Brazilian Study Commission on Thermal Hazards-Heat and Flames, and Secretary of the Brazilian Study Commission on Gloves and Clothing for Electrical Hazards, of the Brazilian Committee on Personal Protective Equipment (ABNT/CB-032).He serves as a Brazilian expert on the international IEC TC 78 - Live Working committee, where he is Coordinator of the MT 61482-1-1 group: Maintenance of the International Test Standard for Protective Clothing Against Electric Arcs, and on the international IEC TC 128 - Operations in Electrical Installations committee. He is a member of the IEEE 1584 Standards Committee (Guide for Incident Energy Studies) and General Coordinator of IEEE IAS ESW Brazil.
