Five Questions to Players in the Renewable Energy World – Marcio Takata

Expert Interview

The renewable energy world is changing at a rapid pace and offers new job opportunities with special chances and challenges. In this series, we ask people who are working in different areas of the renewable energy sector 5 questions about their jobs:

1. Why renewables? Profession or vocation?

Vocation. I believe that renewable energy is the way to go towards a more accessible and sustainable energy mix.

2. What in your career prepared you in particular for your current job?

Having involved myself with different links in the chain has been fundamental to help me figure out how the renewables market functions and how it is building itself up for the future.

3. Do you have role models, and if so, who and why?

When I was a child, my paternal grandfather used to carry out backyard experiments with solar energy and he deeply influenced me. After all, how can the sun –such an elementary staple of our daily lives– do such amazing things? My curiosity and enchantment as a child were vital for the direction my education and career development later took me. I can say that my conviction is daily strengthened that solar and renewable energy will have a transformative effect in society.

4. What was your biggest professional challenge?

I had the opportunity to start work in renewables as an entrepreneur in 2007, having left corporate life in large multinational companies behind. I can testify to the great challenges of starting a company in a market that was still in its infancy at the time. I gave up many other opportunities so as to be able to fulfill my dream of making a difference in renewables, and I'm glad I made the right decisions.

5. What has been your greatest professional achievement?

To have helped set up a company that is increasingly establishing itself as a relevant reference in the industry, supporting governments, entrepreneurs, investors and consumers to sustainably speed up their involvement in renewable energies. I am happy to be supporting some of the industry’s major investments in the country.
